Why working with the Guardians/Indigenous Peoples?

Medicinal Knowledge

A walk through the forest becomes a botany lesson. Learning which vine provides water and which leaf cures a headache adds immense value to the wildlife trekking.

River Navigation

The rivers of Suriname's interior are filled with rapids (sulas). Navigating them requires knowledge of the rocks and water levels for safety and access to untouched areas.

Acoustic Mastery

Many Indigenous guides can mimic the calls of birds, monkeys, and even jaguars to draw them out. For a birder, a guide who can whistle in a Cotinga or a Trumpeter is priceless.

The "Jungle Eye"

Western eyes struggle to see through the "green wall" of the jungle. Indigenous guides grow up scanning this environment. They will spot a snake or frog long before a tourist even knows it's there

Fair Profit Sharing

A significant portion of the revenue (at least 40%) goes directly to the people from the villages (like Apetina or Palumeu) and the specific guides' families.
